Abstract:
AIM: To determine the relationship between aortic valve calcification (AVC) and coronary artery disease (CAD) in part of the Han population in southern China. METHODS: Enrolled in the study were 1 153 subjects who underwent both transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and coronary arteriography (CAG), and the relationship between aortic valve calcification (AVC) and CAD was explored. RESULTS: The prevalence of AVC was significantly higher in the CAD group compared with that in non-CAD group (32.6% vs. 13.9%, P<0.01). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that in addition to age, gender, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia (all P<0.01), AVC (P<0.05) was an independent positive predictor of coronary arteriography. CONCLUSION: There is a significant association between the presence of AVC and CAD. Aortic valve calcification is an independent predictor of CAD.
